The Sr. Manager R&D, Formulations will hold a leadership position within the Chatsworth location for Natural Products Group. This highly visible position requires successful interaction with R&D management, customers and employees of the company. The role will require assimilating diverse perspectives, direct research activities to the benefit of the NPG business group. Manage a team of 8-12 providing direction and team leadership. Collaboration with Marketing, Regulatory, Procurement, Planning, and Quality to effectively lead the development of our personal care and OTC products.
Manage formulations development, prototyping and sample preparation for Natural Products Group 2. Provide sound technical strategies and plans for product improvements and new product innovations 3. Assess R&D new product opportunities, prioritize and organize in line with the most critical business needs 4. Assess staff strengths and weaknesses and mentor/motivate those individuals within the R&D organization, recruit for new staff 5. Collaborate with Marketing, QC, Regulatory and Suppliers to develop new products, review claims substantiation, conduct stability, micro testing and product efficacy tests 6. Manage new project development with 3rd party Vendors, Consultants and testing laboratories to meet business needs 7. Provide directions for conducting studies on raw ingredients and their processes to reduce cost and improve product quality 8. Foster exchange of knowledge between R&D, Process Development, and Quality to help drive productivity and teamwork. 9. Create and manage all related SOPs for the R&D Formulation team 10. Supervise, train and develop staff to enhance quality and quantity of work in R&D Formulations team 11. Conduct performance reviews for direct reports 12. Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications: 5-8+ years’ experience in supervising technical staff 10+ years’ experience in new formula development, Requires comprehensive knowledge in raw materials and finished good testing for personal care and OTC products Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education: B.S. in Chemistry or other technical discipline
